BC Day Long Weekend Events

With the BC Day Long Weekend fast approaching, here are the top things to do in and around the North Shore!

CATES PARK SUMMER CONCERTS

What:

The Cates Park Concerts are free outdoor concerts, held each summer at picturesque Cates Park in North Vancouver. This concert series showcases local bands, featuring talented young artists performing on the outdoor stage on Saturdays afternoons in July and August.

Each concert features 3 local bands, and the final concert will showcase 9 singer/songwriters. So catch one performance, or bring your blanket and lawn chair and catch them all. This is a great opportunity to see Vancouver’s top up-and-coming talent. All the performers are playing for free. A compilation 27 track, 2-disc CD with one track from every artist performing this summer will be available for purchase by donation. 100% of proceeds will go back to the performers.

HONDA CELEBRATION OF LIGHT

What:

The Honda Celebration of Light is one of Vancouver’s premier events and in the evening hundreds of thousands of people turn out to enjoy the pyrotechnics from the beach and surrounding region.

Where:

English Bay

When:

Saturday, August 5th, is when Team Canada competes in the Honda Celebration of Light international fireworks competition. All afternoon and evening there is music and festivities at Second Beach in Stanley Park. The fireworks start at 10 o’clock.

HARMONY ARTS FESTIVAL

What:

The Harmony Arts Festival is a 10-day arts festival that usually starts on the August Long Weekend. The event features live music, free nightly movies, art displays and all sorts of things for people of all ages to see and do. Lots of free live music takes place at the Harmony Arts Festival on multiple stages, including concerts each day at both Millennium Park and John Lawson Park.

Where:

It takes place in West Vancouver along the water between Ambleside and John Lawson Park.

When:

Friday, August 4th to Sunday, August 13th

PRIDE PARADE & FESTIVAL

What:

Vancouver’s West End, especially along Davie Street, is famous for its rainbow colours and gay-friendly atmosphere anytime of the year, but especially in late July when Vancouver’s annual Gay Pride Festival takes place.

Hosted by the Vancouver Pride Society, the week of events is celebrated not only by Vancouver’s LGBTQ+ community, but by the entire city and visitors from around the world.

Where:

Most of the events take place in Vancouver’s West End, primarily at Sunset Beach and along Davie Street.

When:

Pride Parade takes place on Sunday, August 6th from noon until close to 3 pm. The Pride Festival celebrations continue at Sunset Beach from 11 am to 6 pm.
